At the suggestion of the Council of the Bernoulli Society,
a committee has been formed of directors/representatives of
mathematical institutes that are organizing and/or developing
programs in the stochastic sciences and related fields. The
task of the committee is to encourage, promote and facilitate
the cooperation of institutes that share the common goal of
providing high-level research and training in the stochastic
sciences with a national and international profile.
Committee members will:
- share experiences on past activities;
- inform each other about upcoming events;
- investigate possibilities for exchange of researchers/visitors and for tuning of future programmes;
- encourage the development of new programs;
- discuss fundraising both nationally and internationally;
- seek to assist colleagues who are actively working towards the
creation of new institutes.
Through the committee the Bernoulli Society wishes to stimulate
cross-border communication and to create a forum for exchange.
Chair of the committee was Frank den Hollander
(EURANDOM, The Netherlands, )
The first meeting of the committee took place at the 4th World
Congress of the Bernoulli Society in Barcelona, on July 27, 2004.

Members are those institutes that:
- mainly focus on the stochastic sciences and related fields;
- operate specifically to develop, organize and facilitate programs
in the stochastic sciences and their interfaces;
- share the common goal of providing high-level research and training
in the stochastic sciences with a national and international profile.
The committee may:
- serve as a forum for exchange of information and for coordination
of research activities;
- assist mathematics institutes in developing programs in statistics
and probability;
- assist stochastic sciences institutes in developing new programs;
- identify leading international researchers in the stochastic
sciences to serve on the advisory board of mathematical institutes;
- help colleagues who are actively working towards the creation
of new institutes, by providing practical information and letters
of support;
- run information sessions and institute presentation sessions at
major international mathematics conferences;
- publicize upcoming local events, display publications;
- provide a central website with links to all member institutes.
