Briefing Seminar on International Statistics for Chief Statisticians

Voorburg, The Netherlands, 7-9 June 2000

The ISI is organising a three-day Briefing Seminar on International Statistics, specifically geared to the needs of newly appointed chief statisticians, assistant chief statisticians and senior staff of international relations departments within National Statistical Institutes. This Seminar, which will take place from 7 to 9 June 2000 in Voorburg (The Netherlands), aims at providing the attendees with an inside look at the complex structure of international statistical organisations, their relationships and interaction.

The ISI has recently sent out information leaflets to prospective participants in various National Statistical Offices. In eleven sessions, expert guest speakers will deal with the following themes:

MMR’2000 — Methodology, Practice and Inference

Second International Conference on Mathematical Methods in Reliability

Co-sponsors: Opti Stats, ISI Committee on Statistics in Industry and Université Victor Segalen–Bordeaux 2

MMR’2000, similar to MMR’97 in Bucharest, will serve as a forum for discussing fundamental issues concerning mathematical methods in reliability with respect to their applications. The idea of this conference is to assemble probability, statistics and applied mathematics university laboratories and research institutions that are working in the field of reliability. Theoretical, modeling, computational, and case studies contributions are sought. Common models and methods in Survival analysis and Reliability will be considered also.

The conference is also interested in providing opportunities to Ph.D. students to participate and exhibit their work. This conference, is intended to complement other related conferences, including ESREL (Europe) and RAMS (USA).

Submission of final version of abstracts (4 pages): March 3, 2000. Papers should be sent (in word or in LaTeX) to:
